Athens, March 15, IRNA -- Laborers' freestyle wrestling team of Iran was crowned at Acropolis Cup here Sunday night.
Winning one gold, three silver medals and two fourth titles, Iran outpointed runner-up Russia and third-placed Canada, on 27 points.
Russia stood second on 23 points and Canada collected 18. Mostafa Younessi brought Iran the glittering gold of 84 kg category as he beat his French opponent in final.
In 60 kg, Mehdi Babaei-Ja'fari of Iran snatched the silver, losing to the Russian finalist.
Iran's 74 kg wrestler Mohsen Babaei, who managed to overcome Stefan Boniev from Bulgaria in the semifinal in spite of having a broken left leg stood on the mat against his Russian rival in the final but refused to wrestle and, receiving a standing ovation and the silver.
Fardin Ma'soumi added another silver to Iran's asset as he was beaten by David Mussel from Russia in 120 kg final showdown.
Sardar Mowlavi and Mehdi Moharrampour failed to bag bronze medals of 55 and 66 kg respectively, losing to Bulgarian and American wrestlers.
Fourteen countries of Greece, Iran, the Unites States, Canada, Poland, Bulgaria, Senegal, Moldavia, Cyprus, Austria, Russia, France, Switzerland, and Romania competed in the international wrestling tournament.
