Tehran, March 17, IRNA -- Automobile, tea, rice, sugar and cotton imports according to new tariff rates will be free as of the next Iranian year of 1383 (to start on March 20), said Minister of Commerce Mohammad Shariatmadari here on Wednesday.
Shariatmadari told reporters that that government is expected to earn a revenue of rls 28,400 billion through the tariffs levied on imports, rls 6,400 billion of which will come from tariffs on auto imports.
He said that number of goods subject to the tariffs will rise to almost 6,150 next year from the current level of about 5,130.
The minister said tariffs on auto imports will be 147 to 185 percent, tea 20 percent, rice 100 percent, sugar 70 percent, garments and textiles 45 percent and TV about 20 percent.
He said the agricultural and horticultural products will require no import permits.
He said the next year budget envisions rls 27,000 billion subsidies on basic commodities.
