Iran acquires OCM technology for first time

Tehran, May 2, IRAN -- Iran has acquired technological know-how of a catalyst used for conversion of methane into ethylene.

The technological know-how is related to the oxidative coupling of methane to ethylene, Deputy Oil Minister for Petrochemical Affairs Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh told foreign and domestic reporters on the sidelines of the Sixth Iran Petrochemical Forum.

Iran has already launched petrochemical research projects in recent years on conversion of gas into chemical products and has obtained satisfactory results in this regard, he said.

"This technical know-how has been registered in the United States under the name of Iran's National Petrochemical Company," he added.

The NPC head noted that promotion of technologies being used by active petrochemical complexes is among research activities of the company.

Asked about investment of US companies in Iran's petrochemical projects, Nematzadeh said, "The US companies, despite their willingness, are forbidden by the US government to invest in Iran."

He voiced NPC's readiness to invest in other international companies.

The Sixth Iran Petrochemical Forum opened here Saturday in the presence of domestic and foreign experts from 46 countries and is to wind up its work on Sunday.
