Iran's Parliament approves urgency of bill on legitimate freedom, citizenship right

Tehran, May 2, IRNA -- Iran's Majlis (Parliament) on Sunday approved double urgency of a bill on respect for legitimate freedom and observance of citizenship right.

Some 46 MPs submitted the double urgent bill in view of a 15-point directive issued by the Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi to observe lofty human values and respect legitimate freedom and the citizenship rights as well as to guarantee implementation of the directive.

In case of final ratification, all public, revolutionary and military courts, public prosecutor's offices and agents of the Judiciary will be obliged to observe the said points precisely and those ignoring it will be severely punished.

Making the accused confess through torture or forcing the accused to do something contrary to his or her wish would be forbidden and such a confession would have no legitimate or legal validity.

Persecution, humiliation and frightening of the accused must be avoided under the bill if approved.
