Bandar Anzali, Gilan prov, May 4, IRNA -- Managing Director of
Fisheries Commercial Company Mohammad-Reza Hosseini said on Monday
that Iran exported 65 tons of caviar worth 35 million euros in the
year to March 19, which was less than the set quota.
Addressing a press conference at the Sturgeon Research Center in
Rasht, Hosseini said that bulk of the caviar was exported to the
European countries, Japan, the United States and the United Arab
Emirates.
He added that during the period, two tons of caviar were exported
to the United States of America directly and five tons indirectly.
Hosseini recalled that Iran quota for the period was set at 77
tons out of the total of 140 tons for all five Caspian littoral states
but this figure could not be met due to difficulties in fishing.
The official concluded that weak management of Caspian Sea
littoral states in protecting and exploiting the reserves of the sea
still persist and these countries have not taken any serious measures
to prevent illegal trade in caviar.
