Unsung traditional melodies account for durable Iranian culture

Tehran, May 4, IRNA -- Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ahmad Masjed-Jamei here Tuesday referred to melodies as one of the main factors protecting Iran's 7,000-year culture and civilization against all the threats, invasions and pressures.

Speaking at a ceremony held to introduce the new head of Iran's Music Center, Mohammad Hossein Homafar, Masjed Jamei added that the ups and downs in Iranian history and its ancient civilization can be found in the hidden angles of Iranian melodies and pieces of music.

A report released by the public relations department of the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry quoting Masjed-Jamei said that art consists of poetry, music, passion play, words and colors.

"Once mingled with poetry, music will become more durable, particularly if special attention is paid to concept," he added.

The minister said that if the hidden expression of the art is identified, no one would oppose it.

Appreciating the efforts of the former head of Iran's Music Center, Ali Morad Khani, he lauded him as a successful manager and a man of conscience.

Deputy Minister of Culture for art affairs Mohammad Hossein Imani Khoshkhu, also attending the ceremony, referred to music as an original art with old roots.
