Tehran, May 13, IRNA -- Iran`s Association for Defense of the Freedom of the Press (ADFF) awarded its Golden Pen Award this year to a 6th Majlis MP, Hojjatoleslam Hossein Ansari-Raad, the head of the parliament`s Article 90 Commission.

In a ceremony on the occasion, on the sidelines of the ongoing 16th Tehran International Book Fair, the ADFF officials appreciated the efforts made by Hojjatoleslam Ansari-Raad "in defense of the Iranian nation`s civil rights" during his years at the Majlis.

The head of the ADFF Hojjatoleslam Mohsen Kadivar in his address on the occasion evaluated the efforts made by Article 90 Commission in pursuit of regaining the rights of the imprisoned press family members, carefully heeding the complaints filed by them at the commission, and effective defense of the press, of great significance.

Hojjatoleslam Kadivar reiterated, "The defense of a national body for the freedom of expression and the denied rights of the oppressed should be duely appreciated, since its definitely a positive point for the system and the nation."

He added, "Many prizes are awarded in Iran nowadays, many of which are economically speaking of higher significance, but this association`s awards are mainly of intellectual value, and the result of its members` efforts."

Ansari-Raad, too, after receiving his Golden Pen Prize, said, "No one is allowed to give, or take away freedom from a human being, since freedom is the natural right of man, given to him by God."

Article 90 Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Majlis, named after Article 90 of the Islamic Republic of Iran`s Constitution, is in charge of surveying the complaints filed by those who are not pleased with the judiciary`s way of dealing with their complaints.
