Tehran cinemas to cut short screening of smash hit "the lizard"

Tehran, May 15, IRNA -- Cinemas at this sprawling capital are intending to remove blockbuster 'The Lizard' from their screens although the most commercially successful movie in Iran's history still continues to attract audience in droves.

The film's broadcasting manager, Nasser Sha'bani, told IRNA Saturday that 'Marmoulak', as it is called in Persian, will be replaced by another movie as of the forthcoming Saturday.

The movie has already broken box office records in Iran, earning as much as one million dollars in Tehran alone, estimated roughly.

Although being endorsed by some of the country's most prominent authorities, such as Judiciary chief Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, The Lizard has drawn the ire of some clerics.
