Iranian experts will kick off the operations of constructing the dlrs 1,280 million fiber optic network which will be completed within nine months, said Iran's Ambassador to Afghanistan Mohammad Reza Bahrami.
Bahrami added constructing the optic fiber network starting in Dogharoun border area, will be stretched to Islam Qaleh and then to the city of Herat.
The dlrs 1,280 million construction cost of the project will be provided by the credit line Iran has allocated to reconstructing Afghanistan.
Iran attaches importance to restoring good mutual relations and cooperation with Afghanistan to cement peace and stability in the war-torn country, stressed Bahrami.
Iran has also allocated dlrs 31,000 to implement 'Time and Attendance and Access Control Software and System' in order to make use of modern technology in Afghanistan's telecommunications.
Afghan Communications Minister Mohammad Masoom Stanakzai, for his part, appreciated Iran's assistance to his country, saying "Afghanistan will utilize the telecommunications facilities for the first time, making use of the optic fiber network."
Stanakzai stressed that the optic fiber network facilitates communications and will considerably lower the cost of telecommunications for Afghan people.
