Tehran, May 27, IRNA -- Interior Minister Abdolvahed Moussavi Lari
here Thursday presented a report to the 7th Majlis on the trend of
parliamentary elections held on February 20.
He said from total 8,172 nominees for the 7th Majlis, 7,344
individuals were men while 828 others were women, adding 434 hopefuls
were disqualified by the Executive Boards.
The Guardian Council disqualified 3,617 nominees.
Lari further noted that 1,828 hopefuls were disqualified by the
GC due to lack of commitment to Islam and Velayat-e Faqih while 1,409
others were disqualified because of lack of commitment to the system
of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Constitution.
He said disqualification of 871 nominees was due to ill fame.
The minister noted that 85 MPs of the 6th Majlis and 1,460 war
veterans were disqualified.
Lari said 4,665 hopefuls attended the 7th Majlis's competition
for 290 seats.
