Nowshahr, May 30, IRNA-- A representative of Iranian President
Mohammad Khatami said in the northern quake-stricken town of
Marzan-Abad Sunday that second phase of sending relief consignments to
the areas struck by Friday's earthquake is underway at a quick pace.

Speaking to residents of Marzan-Abad, in Kelardasht district,
Jalil Besharati said that some 1,100 tents would be distributed in
Kelardasht by Sunday evening.
The earthquake which occurred at Alborz Mountain Chain Friday hit
vast parts of Iranian northern cities killing at least 21 people and
injuring 200. However, the officials believe that the death toll is
likely to rise.

One hour after the earthquake, Besharati remarked, a crisis
headquarters, ordered by president Mohammad Khatami, was set up by the
Interior ministry and the Red Crescent Society.
Meanwhile, another report from the northern city of Rasht, capital
of Gilan province, quoted a provincial official as saying that some 40
houses were damaged by 10 to 50 percent in the little town of Siahkal,
near Rasht.
Mohammad Ali-Zadeh told IRNA in Rasht that Friday's quake left no
casualties in Gilan province and that a rescue team from Gilan's Red
Crescent Society has been dispatched to the worst hit areas in
Mazandaran and Qazvin provinces.
