Sari, Mazandaran Prov, May 30, IRNA -- At least 3,879 buildings
ere damaged as a result of the Friday powerful earthquake in this
Caspian Sea Province, inflicting 123.5 billion rials of damage,
said the office of the provincial governor general Sunday.

It added the damage inflicted on 200 agricultural and
live-stock breeding units in the area has been assessed to
amount to 5.5 billion rials.
Infrastructural facilities including water, electricity,
communication and state buildings have been damaged by the
earthquake and its aftershocks, causing 3.8 billion rials of loss.
A strong earthquake, measuring 5.5 degrees on the Richter
scale struck vast parts of the Iranian northern cities on Friday.
Twenty-two people died and over 200 others injured as a result of
the quake. Officials, however, believe the death toll is likely
to rise.

The seismological base of Tehran University's Institute said
quakes, measuring from 1.6 to 5.5 on Richter scale, hit Baladeh
region and its vicinity in this province for 117 times between
17:08 hours local time (1238 GMT) Friday and 20:00 (1530GMT)
Saturday.
The institute added an earthquake, measuring 4.5 degrees
on the Richter scale jolted Baladeh at 23:08 (1838 GMT) Saturday.
A moderately strong earthquake hit Kelardasht, Marzanabad,
Nowshahr and Nour regions in Mazandaran at 06:12 hours local time
(0142 GMT) Sunday.
