Project for development of 16 oil fields start in central Iran

Tehran, Nov 6, IRNA -- Successful drilling of the first phase of a pair of wells in Sarkan oil field in central part of Iran marked the start of operations for development of 16 oil fields in the area.

Public Relations Department in Central Regions Oil Company said the first phase of the project involves the drilling of four wells in Cheshmeh Khosh, Sarkan and Malehkouh fields, 12,350 meters deep, at a cost of dlrs 20 million.

The group of oil fields, namely Cheshmeh Khosh, Paydar, Paydar Gharb, Sarkan, Malehkouh, Dehloran, Kabud, Danan, Khesht, Kuh Kaki, Sarvestan, Saadatabad, Shurum, Rig, Dudrow, Bushehr and Boushgan, are estimated to contain 18 billion barrels of in situ oil, delivering about 2.2 billion barrels of crude.

About dlrs 760 million has been set aside for the first phase of the project for development of the fields, and once the first phase of the project is completed by 2007, 162,000 barrels of crude would be produced a day.

Some 1,300 square kilometers of the fields have undergone two-dimensional seismographic operations and 1,018 square kilometers under tree-dimensional seismographic operations in line with a comprehensive project for development of the fields.
