The head of the Institute of Research on Livestock Sciences Mohammad-Ali Kamali told IRNA that per capita chicken consumption in Iran stands at 15.2 kg compared to Europe's 17.8 kg and 11.2 kg globally.
Kamali said chicken production in Iran will rise to 2,063,000 tons a year in the next 10 years from 1,100,000 tons this year.
The official said Iran has the potential to export poultry to Arab states and can compete with other countries in this field.
The official said 264 research projects, 35 percent of which are in poultry and livestock feed and 30 percent in livestock management and the remaining in genetics and improved breeds, are underway in his institute.
