The students said the sit-in would be their way of voicing their protest to "the disrespect shown to the first-ever chancellor elected by faculty members of the university by a group of students with military connection in the university."
The statement, referring to the recent incident in the University of Sciences and Technology, said it was "a mean measure to insult university people and the institution of the university which is held in high esteem."
It further expressed the opinion widely held among students that the attack on the chancellor was made in a bid to stop the growing trend favoring the election rather than appointment of chancellors.
The statement further announced that classes have been cancelled in Amir Kabir University today.
A group of students objecting to the speech of Ibrahim Yazdi and Mostafa Tajzadeh at the University of Sciences and Technology on Tuesday beat its chancellor and took him hostage for three hours.
