Quakes jolt Iranian cities

Tehran, Nov 9, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 3.7 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale shook the city of Nahavand in the western province of Hamedan on Tuesday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 05:22 hours local time (0152 GMT).

There were no reports of any damage to property caused by the quake.

Quake jolts Avaj in Qazvin province

Another earthquake measuring 4.4 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the city of Avaj in Qazvin province Monday night.

According to the seismological center of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occured at 23:33 hours local time (20:03 hours GMT).

There were no reports of any probable casualty or damage to property caused by the tremor.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
