China stresses settlement of Iran's nuclear case at IAEA

Beijing, Nov 9, IRNA -- The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Beijing on Tuesday that Beijing believes Iran's nuclear case should be settled at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) although certain countries seek to send it to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

"China has a transparent and specified stance in this regard," the spokesman added.

He assessed the recent visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing to Iran as very important, saying during his meetings with senior Iranian officials, Li expressed hope the issue would be resolved within the framework of IAEA.

A number of states including European countries have recently carried out diplomatic activities regarding Iran's nuclear case, he said, adding China has had consultations and contacts with the European Union (EU) to this effect.

The Chinese foreign minister has held phone convocations with his Russian and US counterparts as well as US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice on Iran's nuclear dossier.
