Iranian FM in Cairo to attend Arafat funeral

Tehran, Nov 12, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi Thursday night left for Cairo, capital of Egypt, where the funeral ceremony of late leader of Palestinian Authority, Yasser Arafat, is held Friday.

Ali-Akbar Mohtashamipour, secretary general of Palestinian Nation Conference, Mohammad Shariatmadari, an advisor to the president and a PNC member, Mohammad-Reza Tajeddini, Hossein Sheikholeslam, Qodratollah Alikhani, and Elham Aminzadeh, four MPs, are accompanying the minister.

Arafat died at 0230 GMT Thursday in a Paris military hospital, aged 75, after being airlifted to France on October 29 from his West Bank headquarters. He had been in a coma since November 3.

The funeral begins inside a military compound on the outskirts of Cairo, in what will be a brief and solemn ceremony attended by scores of world leaders but closed to the public.

Not to be outdone, Palestinians are preparing Friday to bury their leader in the grounds of his headquarters.

The body of Arafat is flown into the Muqataa headquarters in the early afternoon after the official funeral in Cairo.
