Dezful, Nov 15, IRNA -- The blast of an unexploded device left over from the eight-year Iraqi imposed war against Iran (1980-1988) killed three children and wounded four others including a 30-year-old woman in this southwestern provincial city on Sunday.
The explosion took place when a group of children from a regional tribe were playing with an unknown object which according to one of the wounded was a hand grenade from the Iran-Iraq war era.
Mansour Azizi, 10, told IRNA that the incident occurred when he and his cousins were playing with the object near the place where they were living with other members of their tribe.
Azizi added that one of the victims was an 8-year-old boy who died immediately after the explosion and the two others died at hospital.
A provincial police official told IRNA that the device was most probably a hand grenade.
