Solana described the recent EU-Iran agreement on Iran's nuclear programme as important and voiced optimism over closer cooperation between Brussels and Tehran, Iranian diplomatic sources told IRNA.
For his part, Ahani welcomed the expansion of EU-Iran cooperation and said the EU can consider Iran as an influential player in resolving regional crises and in having a stronger international political role.
Sources in Solana's office told IRNA that the EU foreign policy chief was extremely pleased to meet Ahani whom he knows well from previous meetings.
Ahani was the former deputy minister for Euro-American affairs.
