Tehran, Oct 19, IRNA -- Iran exported over six billion cubic meters
of gas to Turkey from January 2002 to August 2004, the head of the
Iranian Gas Company's Information and Reports Department said here
on Tuesday.
Abbas Pasdar said that 1.4 billion cubic meters of gas were
exported to Turkey during the first five months of the current Iranian
year 1383 (started March 20,2004) showing a rise of 7.7 percent
compared to the figure in the same period last year.
Referring to its imports of gas from Turkmenistan, Pasdar said
that Iran imported 1.7 million cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan
in the first five month of the current Iranian year.
"Till now, Iran has imported 24.9 billion cubic meters of natural
gas from Turkmenistan," he said.
Pasdar added that the great distance between the gas production
sources in southern Iran and its northern provinces and the high cost
of transferring gas to these provinces led to the decision to import
gas from Turkmenistan.
