Tehran, Oct 30, IRNA -- Iran ranked third in the world for production
of 10 million tons of different kinds of dimensional stones in 2003.
Public Relations Department at Iran's Mineral House said 10
million tons of dimensional stones, including marmatite, travertine,
china stone and granite were extracted from 962 dimensional stone
mines in Iran in 2003.
Based on the report, Iran had a share of about 12.3 percent in
about 81,400,000 tons of dimensional stones extracted worldwide in
2003.
China with an output of 18,600,000 tons last year remained as the
first supplier of unprocessed stone worldwide.
India with 11,200,000 tons of dimensional stones yearly stood
second after China.
A total of 9,300,000 tons of dimensional stones were exported in
2003, a figure showing a 4.3 percent increase compared to 2002.
India had a share of about 2,100,000 tons in the export of
dimensional stones worldwide in the year.
Turkey produced 6,200,000 tons of dimensional stones in 2003 and
exported about 1,300,000 tons to other countries, taking the second
place in terms of export.
