Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines Managing Director Ali Ashraf Afkhami told IRNA that the ship launched its first journey from Hamburg to the Persian Gulf last week.
He said the ship, with a capacity of 2,300 containers, costs dlr 33.5 million.
With the addition of the new oceanliner, the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) now has the capacity to transport 3,330,000 tons of goods, he added.
IRISL, an international shipping company and undertakes journeys to destinations all over the world except the United States, he said, adding that it transported some 23 million tons of cargo during the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20) setting a new record for the company, he announced.
Since some 85 percent of goods transported internationally is done by sea, the IRISL attaches great importance to upkeeping and bolstering of the country's marine fleet, Afkhami sterated.
