Iran, Qatar, China, Korea advance in Asian junior football meet

Tehran, Sept 8, IRNA -- Iran, Qatar, China, and South Korea stormed into the second round of the 11th Asian Junior Football Championship in Japan on Tuesday.

In Group C, Iran thrashed the Malaysian team 5-0 to book a berth in the next round as the leader on six points as it had already beaten India 1-0.

Kuwait managed to defeat India 2-1, standing second in the table on four points.

Malaysia has one point and the bottom-placed India is pointless.

On Thursday, India plays Malaysia and Iran meets Kuwait.

In Group D, Qatar battered Bangladesh 6-1 and Iraq crushed Uzbekistan 4-1.

Collecting six points, Qatar is the group leader while the Iraqi side lies in the second spot on three points and Uzbekistan and Bangladesh have one point each.

On Sept 9, Uzbekistan arrays against Qatar and Iraq plays Bangladesh.

In Group A, Japan entertains China and Thailand fields its players against North Korea Wednesday.

China is spearheading Group A on six points.

In Group B, South Korea plays Vietnam and Laos faces Oman Wednesday.

South Korea is the table-topper with six points.

Two teams from each group qualify for the second round and top three teams win tickets to world event.
