A senior U.S. envoy says President Bush is determined to find a peaceful end to the stalemate with Iran over Tehran's suspected nuclear weapons program. However, when asked whether Washington would consider military action if diplomacy fails, Undersecretary of State John Bolton said, quote, "we are determined that they are not going to achieve nuclear weapons capability."
Mr. Bolton's comments Sunday in Jerusalem came hours after Iran's Foreign Ministry again rejected international demands to abandon its uranium enrichment program.
However, a ministry spokesman said Tehran is ready to assure Europeans that it will not use its nuclear knowledge to build weapons.
Monday, the International Atomic Energy Agency meets in Vienna to consider a European resolution giving Iran until November to prove it is not trying to develop a nuclear bomb.
