Speaking at a gathering of Tajik men of pen, scholars and intellectual elite, he added that the Tajik nation is known for its glorious Persian culture and civilization incomparable to any other world nation.
"The Tajiks expect to witness a better world and the world looks forward to see improvement in Tajikistan. All the evidences show that Tajikistan will succeed in achieving such a goal.
"The Silk Road facilitates cultural exchanges and transfer of cultural values from one point in the world to another," he added.
Turning to the initiative of 'Dialogue among Civilizations' as the common cultural spirit of Iran and Islam, he said that the core of the country's historical and cultural conscience has been presented to the humanity.
"Our culture and civilization are marked by their composite spirit, while in facing foreign cultures and civilizations we have assessed and incorporated them into ours instead of rejecting or opposing them.
"Our culture is not a racist one to establish itself by denying others. It rather welcomes foreign cultures while safeguarding its own principles and criteria, just as it hailed the culture of Islam and flourished," he added.
The president reiterated the need for identification of one's own self and said that giving special attention to the common cultural identity is the most important factor in self-identification.
The chief executive further referred to the Persian language and literature as the major element in Tajik anthropology and self-identification.
Regretting that Tajiks were alienated from their origins by the change in their script, the president called on Tajikistan's educational elite and government to find a solution to the problem.
President Khatami who arrived in Dushanbe Saturday evening on a three-day official visit, is scheduled to meet a number of Iranians residing in the republic.
President Khatami's visit to Tajikistan is taking place at the official invitation of his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmonov.
Meanwhile, the president is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Economic Cooperation Organization's (ECO) member states summit to be held in Dushanbe on September 14.
