Tehran, Sept 14, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamidreza Asefi on Tuesday stressed that the three Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa as well as the Lesser and Greater Tunbs are integral parts of Iranian territory.
He made the remarks in response to the position adopted by foreign ministers of Persian Gulf Cooperation Council member states in the statement issued at the end of their 92nd meeting.
Asefi further dismissed any claims against Iran's territorial integrity questioning its ownership over the waters, air space and economy of the three islands.
Pointing to the bilateral talks between Iran and the UAE regarding the misinterpretation of a letter of understanding signed by the two countries in 1971 on Abu Musa island, he expressed the hope that the two sides could reach a common view by continuing their dialogue.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman also cautioned PGCC foreign ministers against intervening in the current constructive procedure of negotiations and said safeguarding peace and security in the region and continuing and consolidating cooperation among the regional countries were beneficial both for nations and governments of Persian Gulf littoral states.
