About Ross Mirkarimi:

Mr. Mirkarimi has lived in San Francisco for over 20 years where he has been a tireless force for progressive change. He has spent years defending consumers, building neighborhood coalitions, and empowering people to take back their government.

Mr. Mirkarimi has led some of the most critical campaigns and causes in recent years: Police Reform and Accountability, Sunshine Laws, and Public Power—designed to give San Franciscans a greater voice in their energy future while stopping PG&E’s ratepayer rip-off. And he was chosen as a local hero by the SF Bay Guardian.

He has worked for District Attorney’s office since 1996, concentrating his investigative work on high profile economic crimes, such as the Old Republic Title Company case, as well as focusing on environmental crimes, elder abuse, and youth related offenses. Preceding that, he took the unconventional step of enrolling in the SF Police academy, graduating as class president.

As a legislative aid to Supervisor Terence Hallinan, he helped usher the passage of bold policies such as District Elections, Campaign Spending Reform, Enactment of Transgender Rights; and advanced Tenant Protections. As an environmental analyst, Ross led two health investigations (Harvard Study Team) inside Iraq to chronicle the Gulf War’s impact on civilians. In the mid-1990’s Ross went on a national speaking tour warning of impending war with Iraq
