Iranian Journalists Urge President To Probe Case Of Arrested Reporters
Tehran, Sept 20, IRNA -- A number of Iranian journalists in a letter to President Mohammad Khatami on Monday called for probe into the case of arrested reporters. The letter addressing the president has been signed by 212 correspondents and photojournalists.

According to the letter, the recent arrest of a number of individuals involved in the press and various websites has created an unpleasant atmosphere in the sector.

"Though every executive official can ignore the spirit and proceedings of law, you, as the chief executive, have taken oath to execute the Constitution item by item and safeguard this national law," added the letter.

The signatories thanked the president for assigning a committee to investigate the arrest of some of the individuals providing informative material on weblogs and Internet.

They further called for necessary measures to be taken to follow up the case.
