Tehran, Sept 20, IRNA -- Hani Asakereh, Iran's 73 kg judoka, bagged
bronze in the 12th Paralympic Games in the Greek capital, Athens,
Sunday.
Asakereh finished third as he beat Matthias Kreiger from Germany
by an ippon.
The Iranian opened his fights with a victory over his opponent
from Argentina. He was put in the losers group following a loss to a
US judoka and defeated a Russian representative to set up the bronze
clash against the German.
Wang Yunfeng of China became the new champion in the category
after his triumph over the experienced Brazilian Eduardo Amaral in
the final Sunday afternoon.
Earlier, he had beaten Sydney gold medalist Stephen Moore of the
United States in a dramatic match.
Moore finally earned a place on the podium by overcoming Ukraine's
Sergiy Sydorenko in the third-place fight.
The competition in the 73 kg weight category was very tough as
expected from early Sunday when Paralympic judo champion Simon Jackson
of Britain was eliminated in the first round in a shocking defeat by
Sydorenko.
