NOUR-AFSHAN STRIPPED OF GOLD
Iranian discus throw champion Mokhtar Nour-Afshan lost his gold medal Monday when organizers decided he had been assigned to compete in the wrong disability category, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) said.
The Iranian won the discus gold in the F54 category Sunday but an IPC official decided later that Nour-Afshan should have competed in the F55 category.
Nour-Afshan was stripped of gold and the runner-up Liang Fan from China was announced the gold medalist.
