Iran wins crown of Asian Jr basketball championships

New Delhi, Sept 24, IRNA -- Iran defeated South Korea 89-86 in the finals of the 18th Asian Junior Basketball Championships at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in the Southern Indian state of Karnataka on Thursday evening.

Nasurullah Moini, Manager of Iranian Junior men's basketball team, praised the Iranian players for their "pulsating basketball and incredible performance" against South Korea.

Moini also thanked the crowd at the stadium for supporting the Iranian team.

After being 13-29 down in the first quarter, Korea matched the Iranians in the next two quarters (28-all and 12-all) in the final session outscored the champion 33-20, but it was just not enough.

And the man who made the difference in the sides was Jabber Darrehsari who plucked rebounds at will and effected to foil the designs of Koreans. The results: Final: Iran 86 (Jaber Darrehsai 27, Eoshin Sahakian 22, Ali Beheran 14) beat Korea 84 (Jin Soo Kim 19, Sung Hoon Park 16, Yong Woo Kim 13) (Ht: 57-41). Third Place: China 73 (Wang Yong 23, Wang Nan 12, Gup Lei 12, Xie Libin 10) beat Lebanon 63 (Elie Stephen 25, Joseph Jawad 15) (Ht: 33-28). Fifth Place: Chinese Taipei 106 (Hsu Yu Hsiu 28, Chang Yu Lin 15, Lu Cheng Ju 12) beat Hong Kong China 82 (Chang Cheung Man 11, Sy Wai Pu 10) (Ht: 58-39). Ninth Place: Japan 76 (Kawamura Takuya 21, Nishimura Fumio 17, Ota Takumi 10) beat Saudi Arabia 60 (A.Rahman M 14, Kamal Falatah 13) (Ht: 36-33). Eleventh Place: Kyrgyzstan 100 (Rustam Kadyrov 33, Aziz Halmurzin 20, Nail Gafarov 18) beat Kuwait 89 (Abdul Aziz Barjas 32, Hussain Al Khababaz 27, Abdul Rahman Jomaa 12) (Ht: 40-47).

In the tournament 16 countries participated.
