Vienna, April 4, IRNA-Visiting Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and his Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer start their official talks in Vienna on Monday.
President Khatami, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Vienna, Austria, Monday on an official day-long visit at the invitation of his counterpart.
Khatami and Fischer are scheduled to discuss bilateral relations as well as key international developments. The two president are then to attend a joint press conference.
The Iranian president is also planned to meet Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel and President of the Nationalrat (Parliament) Andreas Kohl and attend a lunch banquet to be hosted by his Austrian counterpart.
This is Khatami's second visit to Austria since he took office in 1997. He paid a visit to Austria in March 2002.
Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and Head of Iran's Management and Planning Organization Hamid Reza Baradaran Shoraka as well as several scientific and cultural personalities are accompanying Khatami in his visit to Vienna.
Tehran-Vienna bilateral relations entered a new phase with a visit by the former Austrian president to Iran in 1999. During his stay, the two sides signed six memoranda of understanding in economic, scientific and cultural fields.
He is to leave Vienna for Paris, Monday evening to address the meeting of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at the initiative of `Dialogue among Civilizations' on Tuesday.
