Iranian envoy terms Tehran-Paris ties as firm

Paris, April 4, IRNA-Iranian Ambassador to Paris Sadeq Kharrazi Monday termed Tehran-Paris ties as "firm", saying the two sides have been witnessing expansion of relations in all the economic, political, cultural, regional and international fields.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IRNA Monday on the eve of President Mohammad Khatami's visit to France, Kharrazi said France and Iran have fully seized all opportunities for expansion of relations and that nothing threats their relations.

Sharing cultural and historical bonds, Iran and France today believe that they can take more giant strides at bilateral and regional levels, said Kharrazi.

He said Paris and Tehran enjoys enormous potential which are not restricted to their geographic boundaries but going beyond their political and cultural geography.

He went on to say that Iran and France believe in non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and their policies have always been based on non-proliferation of such arms.

In the opinion of Iranian and French officials, the Middle East should witness security, justice and development when it is freed from any nuclear weapons and military conflicts, he said.

He said the Middle East should be strengthened culturally, politically and economically based on the same attitude.

Elsewhere in the interview, Kharrazi said Iran and France have taken very good steps towards promotion of relations in the economic and cultural fields, including research and education.

Referring to Khatami's scheduled speech at the UNESCO meeting on dialogue among civilizations in Paris on Tuesday, Kharrazi said the meeting would discuss achievements of dialogue among civilizations, proposed five years ago by Khatami.

Kharrazi said dialogue of civilizations is one of the key factors of intellectual sector in modern world which could turn into an international parameter solving many ongoing problems facing the mankind.

He said many hostilities arise in the absence of dialogue and civilizations and cultures can guarantee their perpetuity when they become influential and effective.
