CUPERTINO, CA - April 6, 2005 - The Iranian Federated Women's Club (IFWC) today announced that it is hosting its 2005 IFWC Youth Scholarship Fundraising Gala on April 17th, 2005 at the Palo Alto Elks Lodge.
"This is our Seventh Annual Scholarship Fundraising. Each year we have raised more money than the previous year. Last year we were able to provide scholarships to 19 students for a total value of $134,000", said IFWC President Ms. Fariba Nejat. She added: " This year our keynote speaker will be Professor Karimi Hakkak, the Founding Director of Persian Studies at the University of Maryland. We are also pleased to have Ms. Homa Sarshar as the MC for our scholarship fundraising event."
The IFWC Youth Scholarship Fund provides scholarships up to $10,000 to undergraduate Iranian-American Students studying at or entering a 4 year college in the United States.
Fariba Nejat, president of the IFWC, said "During the past years we have awarded 54 scholarships to 35 students. Since the IFWC is a non-profit 501C-3 registered organization, and our scholarship programs are run by volunteers with no paid employees, 100% of the donations received for the Youth Scholarship Fund go towards scholarships to Iranian-American students." She added, "Anyone interested in donating to this fund, is welcome to visit our web site at: www.payvand.org/scholarships to make a donation online or to send their checks to the IFWC at the address given below. Students can download the application form for scholarships at the same site. The deadline for students to mail in their applications is May 1st, 2005".
This year the IFWC Youth Scholarship Fund is holding its fundraising on April 17th 2005, starting at 4.30 PM in the Palo Alto Elks Lodge, at 4249 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94306. Tickets are $200.00 per person. Three levels of sponsorship are available. Each of these sponsorship levels will receive a plaque and a pre determined number of tickets to the 2005 gala. The sponsorship levels are: Platinum Sponsor for $10,000, reserves a table for 10. Gold Sponsor for $5,000, reserves a table for 8. Silver Sponsor for $2,500, receives 4 tickets.
About IFWC and IFWC Youth Scholarship Fund
The Iranian Federated Women's Club is a local non-profit service organization that promotes and introduces the Iranian
Community to the Bay Area in general. Our
local charitable endeavors include scholarships, and projects such as Publishing books, Braille books for the
blind, service to the elderly, children,
youth, poetry, Payvand Magazine TV Program, and El Camino Real Bell project of California. The Iranian
Federated Women's Club Adopted Payvand which
is an Iranian Cultural School which also fosters an interest in Iranian culture by teaching
Iranian heritage, traditions and language.
The Iranian Youth Scholarship Fund was formed in March 2000 by a generous donation from a successful Iranian entrepreneur. This fund helps Iranian youth who are accepted into undergraduate program of a four-year college in the United State and are in need of financial assistance. These students must maintain a certain grade point average to receive up to $10,000.00 per year.
