Berlin, April 14, IRNA-German Finance Minister Hans Eichel and visiting Iranian Economy and Finance Minister Dr. Safdar Hosseini on Thursday met in Berlin where they held talks on further deepening of long-term bilateral economic cooperation.
"We had always good relations with Iran and we are prepared to take further steps in this regard," said Eichel after his meeting with Hosseini, calling the current state of bilateral ties "positive".
Eichel said the joint German-Iranian economic commission was a proper forum to develop even closer economic and trade ties.
Iran has become Germany's number trading partner in the Near and Middle East as total trade volume reached almost 4 billion euros last year.
The German minister expressed hope that the positive outcome of the ongoing political and nuclear negotiations between Iran and the European Union would also lead to closer long-term economic cooperation.
Meanwhile Eichel urged Iran -- as an influential member of OPEC -- to help stabilize the oil price.
For his part, Hosseini pointed to his country's privatization efforts, calling for more German investments.
