Italy to establish three industrial research centers in Iran

Rome, April 23, IRNA-Italy is determined to establish three industrial research and innovation centers in Iran and a specialized Italian delegation is soon expected to arrive in Tehran to conduct the feasibility studies to the effect.

Deputy Minister of Industries and Mines and Managing Director of Iran's Small Industries and Industrial Complexes, Valiollah Afkhami, who arrived in Rome on Monday, told IRNA that according to the agreement reached during talks held with the Italian officials, some of the administrators of Iran's small industries sector will attend training courses in Italy.

"At least two one-month courses are scheduled to be held, each of which is scheduled to be attended by a minimum of 14 officials.

"During the course, the participants will inspect a number of industrial centers to get introduced to various Italian industrial models," he added.

Afkhami referred to promoting small and medium-sized industries as a proper strategy for tackling the nationwide unemployment problem, given that currently small and medium-sized industries account for about 60 percent of employment across the country.

"Considering the great number of small and medium-sized industries in Italy, it seems that Iran can benefit from the expertise of Italian specialists in the field," added Afkhami.

Turning to the agreement reached between the two states in the domain, he said that executive organizations are required to coordinate the relevant affairs in order to support these industrial units.

He referred to the numerous commonalties between the Iranian and Italian small and medium-sized industries as a positive factor that can be used to introduce the Italian models to the domestic small industries.

"If small industries operate as industrial clusters, they will be more sustainable and can be expanded within the framework of clusters. Thus, they will eventually give momentum to smaller units as sideline activities," concluded the official.

During their visit, the Iranian deputy minister and his entourage will inspect various parts of Italy's small and medium-sized industries.
