Tehran, April 24, IRNA-Iran was crowned at the 17th world school football event in Denmark Saturday.
The Iranian team, which had stunned holder Turkey 1-0 in their opening match, celebrated the title as it beat the Turkish side in the final 5-3 on penalties.
The two sides struggled to a scoreless draw in normal time.
On its way to the final showdown, Iran overcame Turkey, Hungary, Czech, and Slovakia 1-0 and crushed Italy 7-0, waltzing into quarterfinals as the top team of Group A.
Iran managed to tame the powerful host Denmark 2-0 in the quarterfinal match and edge past China 2-1 in the semifinal.
The Iranian team ranked 11th in the 16th edition in China in 2003.
