Tehran, Apr. 25 (CHN) - "If obliged to pick one between Jahan Nama and the Naghsh-e Jahan building, our choice would surely fall on the historical square of Naghsh-e Jahan," Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Gholam-ali Haddad Adel, told CHN.
Jahan Nama high-rise is under construction in the aerial vicinity of Naghsh-e Jahan, therefore endangering the situation of the historical square as a registered world heritage site. Fears of UNESCO crossing out the site from the list and adding it to the List of World Heritage in Danger are rising, as are disputes between pros and cons of the Jahan Nama construction, with no solution in sight.
Haddad Adel, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament emphasized the need for Iranians to defend their cultural heritage and specially Naghsh-e Jahan, saying "More important than the UNESCO view toward the issue, is that of the Iranian nation who must preserve their historical heritage and not let any inconveniences in the area of cultural heritage."
To save the position of Naghsh-e Jahan square on the World Heritage Site List, the UNECO demands can be fulfilled by some alterations to the Jahan Nama building, but the constructors do not cooperate on saving the Iranian nation its heritage. The situation of Jahan Nama is now awaiting a legal decision by the Isfahan Court and other legislative bodies.
