Political activists call for transparent methodology for Iran's June 17 election

Tehran, April 30, IRNA-A group of activists supporting the reform program of President Khatami on Saturday called for transparent procedure to be announced by the supervisory body of the election.

In an open letter addressed to the people, the political activists expressed concern about what they called 'five issues of ambiguity about approach of the supervisory body, the Guardian Council will adopt toward qualification of the candidates'.

The activists said that several candidates have been guided to the scene who have not still clarified their programs. The situation is in a way that the main candidate of different political camps is not clear yet.

The communique said that lack of transparency on part of supervisory body about trend of the upcoming presidential election has led to ambiguity giving rise to public concern that continuation of such a situation may bring undemocratic methodology.

The activists emphasized the need for maximum turnout in the election and said that such a turnout will be possible by replacing the current ambiguity with transparency and making public the methodology that the supervisory body will follow in the presidential election.

The activists made clear that any undemocratic methodology on part of the Supervisory Body will cost a heavy price to national solidarity.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has called on the respective electoral organs to pave the way for maximum turnout in the June 17 presidential election and designated the current Iranian year, 1384, the year of National Solidarity.
