Tehran Summer Art Report: Fatemeh Shahroudi

By Syma Sayyah, Tehran

In July and August Tehran, like in many other big cities around the world, is not too good for art and artists, as many galleries take their annual break; although a few including the Golestan gallery are open throughout the year.

I went to see the paintings of Ms Fatemeh Shahroudi there recently, in a terrible heat wave that could easily induce you to stay home for three months!

As on other Friday afternoons, Golestan gallery (at No. 42 Shahid Kamasaie Street, tel. 22541589) was busy with visitors who had come to see the new exhibition.

Ms. Shahroudi is a mother and an interesting lady. I found her works quite diverse and different as she had done them in differing moods and style which made them in some way more captivating.

Some of these works give a feel of the artist being hard and very dark; and then we see some other works which present a more feminine and soft and gentle outlook. I have a few pictures for you to decide for yourselves which one you prefer.
