President Ahmadinejad to meet US-based Iranians in New York

United Nations, Aug 6, IRNA-Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will confer with Iranians residing in the US on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly session. The 60th annual session of the 191-nation UN General Assembly will officially open in New York on September 14 and will wrap up on September 16.

"During his stay in New York, Ahmadinejad is scheduled to meet Iranians residing in the US," Iran's permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammad Javad Zarif told IRNA Friday.

He noted that no special plan has been set for his meeting with Iranian religious minorities in New York.

According to the preliminary list of those who are to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the third who will address the opening session on September 14.

Some 122 presidents, 55 heads of state, two vice-presidents, two deputy prime ministers and nine foreign ministers will take part in the 60th annual session of the UN General Assembly.

Kamal Kharrazi, Foreign Minister of Iran's former president Mohammad Khatami, addressed the 59th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York last year.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad swore in as the Islamic Republic of Iran's 6th president on Saturday, August 6.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed Ahmadinejad's term in office as Iran's 6th president during a ceremony on August 3, honoring the former President Mohammad Khatami.
