Iranian Judiciary: Ganji no longer on hunger strike

Tehran, Aug 9, IRNA-The jailed Iranian journalist Akbar Ganji is not on hunger strike anymore, said Iranian Judiciary spokesman Jamal Karimi-Rad in Tehran on Tuesday.

Talking in his weekly news conference, the official added, "He (Ganji) drank water and tea and used sugar cube before. If it were called a hunger strike, now it has ended."

"His health condition is good and his family are allowed to visit him."

Shifting to his knee surgery, Karimi-Rad said, "It is up to him (Ganji). The operation cannot be carried out by force although he himself asked to be hospitalized for the operation."
