Vienna, Aug 11, IRNA-Deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) and member of Iranian delegation to an emergency meeting of IAEA Board of Governors Mohammad Saeidi said on Thursday that the European Union's proposed resolution to the board is not acceptable to Iran and "we reject it".
In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Thursday, Saeidi said, Iran does not accept the resolution, because it contains issues without legal base and contrary to the NPT, its Additional Protocol and the IAEA Safeguard agreements.
The senior IAEO official pointed out that another point in the resolution is their plea to Iran to stop activities at Isfahan UCF again, arguing that there is no legal base for such a request.
Dr. Saeidi said, although the paragraph D of the resolution says the suspension of Iran's nuclear activities are not legally mandatory and for confidence building, however the paragraph 3 of the resolution asks Iran to suspend its activities at Isfahan UCF.
Paragraph 3 of EU resolution is in contradiction with Article 4 of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the IAEA Charter and the safeguards agreements.
Concerning the position of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states towards the EU resolution, Saeidi stressed, the NAM group is also opposed to the resolution.
He added that the NAM group believe that while the provisions of the resolution are not legally obligatory, so it would be advisable to settle the issue out of the agency and Board of Governors or in other words through negotiations between Iran and EU.
The member of the Iranian delegation said the NAM group insist on its viewpoints on changing the resolution and they think the amendments should be officially registered.
Concerning the statement of Britain's permanent representative to IAEA to stop activities at Isfahan UCF as a condition to resume negotiations between Iran and EU, Saeidi said, the Paris Agreement is actually called null and void by the resolution.
