Izmir, Turkey, Aug 13, IRNA-The Czech soccer team came from behind twice to hold Iran to a 2-2 tie at the 23rd Universiade in Izmir, Turkey on Friday.
Saeid Daqiqi opened the scoring for Iran in the 13th minute, which was responded by a penalty converted two minutes before the interval.
Iran retook the lead on 75 minutes as Bahman Tahmasbi found the net from the penalty spot, but the Czechs secured the parity 10 minutes later.
The two sides continued their battle with shootouts, which are deciding at the end of preliminary round if all four teams of a group have the same points and goal difference.
Iran converted four out of five penalties, but the Czech players scored all five.
The Republic of Czech and Iran lie in first and second spots of the table on four points respectively.
The Iranian squad beat England 2-1 in their opening match and will advance to the last eight with a win over Mexico Sunday.
Sixteen teams are competing at the event.
