Tehran, Aug 25, IRNA-Iran's new Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Ali Larijani on Thursday expressed regret over the recent decision of European Troika to call off nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Speaking to the Islamic Republic of Iran's Broadcasting (IRIB), Larijani said Europe had better adopting a logical approach towards meeting mutual interests to build up confidence, rather than throwing obstacles on the way of mutual understanding and collaboration.
Public opinion in Iran along with international fora have sharply criticized the talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the three European countries on Tehran's civilian nuclear technology, he he said.
Larijani said not only many International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) members but also a number of other European states have in contacts with Iran questioned about the connection and frame based on which the three European states were selected by the IAEA or were chosen to represent the European states in nuclear talks with Tehran.
He said a number of non-aligned countries have also asked Tehran whom the three European states represent in nuclear talks with the Iranian party.
He added that the IAEA Board members representing the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) states have further asked whether Britain, France and Germany represented the IAEA Board of Governors, European Union, the UN or themselves in the talks with Iran.
Furthermore, Larijani went on to say, public opinion and the elite in Iran want to know based on which agreement with the IAEA or based on which logic the parties in the talks on Iran's nuclear program have been restricted to the three European states.
Larijani stressed that the Iranian party sticks to the policy of continued talks and mutual understanding in order for confidence building and winning international trust, welcoming talks with all the IAEA Board members, including the European and non-aligned ones, within framework of the established goals.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has set a new initiative for continuation of Iran's nuclear activities, said Larijani, adding that once the new cabinet ministers take office, dimensions of the initiative will be studied and presented as a full package.
