Iran: 17 proposed ministers receive votes of confidence, 4 rejected

Tehran, Aug 24, IRNA-Majlis deputies Wednesday gave votes of confidence to 17 ministers proposed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The Majlis gave its votes of confidence after several days of deliberations during which deputies spoke in favor or against the proposed ministers.

The results of the polling was announced by Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel during the open-session of Majlis this afternoon.

The result of the polling and the list of ministers are as follows:

1. Minister of Education: Ali-Akbar Ash'ari
Total votes: 284
For: 73
Against: 175
Abstention: 31

2. Minister of Communications and Information Technology: Mohammad Soleymani Total votes: 284 For: 220 Against: 43 Abstention: 16

3. Minister of Information: Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejeie Total votes: 284 For: 217 Against: 51 Abstention: 13

4. Minister of Economy and Finance: Davoud Danesh-Ja'fari Total votes: 284 For: 216 Against: 47 Abstention: 19

5. Minister of Foreign Affairs: Manouchehr Mottaki Total votes: 284 For: 220 Against: 47 Abstention: 16

6. Minister of Commerce: Masoud Mir-Kazemi Total votes: 284 For: 169 Against: 85 Abstention: 25

7. Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education: Kamran Baqeri-Lankarani Total votes: 284 For: 169 Against: 86 Abstention: 27

The number of MPs present at the Majlis scene who participated in the polling was 284.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development and Minister of Education received the highest and lowest numbers of votes of confidence in the Majlis polling, respectively.
