Berlin, Aug 27, IRNA-The US Department of Defense is to hold an international conference on Energy Security in the Caspian Basin, scheduled to take place from September 26-28 in the south German city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the German-based George C.Marshall European Center for Security Studies said in a press release on Saturday.

The US Office of the Secretary of Defense-Eurasia Initiative in conjunction with the US European Command's George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies will sponsor the conference whose main aim is to promote cooperation between Western countries and Caspian countries.

More than 50 energy security experts from 10 nations plus NATO will gather in the German holiday resort town to address the energy security issue in the Caspian Sea region.

Participants and observers are expected from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhastan, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, NATO, the US Departments of State, Defense and Energy, academia, private industry and consulting.
