Quakes hit southern, central Iran

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA-Two quakes with the intensity of 3.8 degrees on the Richter scale hit southern and central parts of Iran Sunday evening and Monday morning, respectively.

The first 3.8-degree quake jolted town of Firouzabad and its western vicinity in southern province of Fars at 19:49 hours local time (1519 GMT) Sunday.

Fars Seismological Network, affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, said the quake was registered in an area located in 28.80 degrees latitude and 51.91 degrees longitude.

Several quakes hit various parts of the province in the past 20 days.

Meanwhile, the second earthquake hit the desert area of Anjeer in northwestern parts of city of Bafq, Yazd province, at 01:54 hours local time on Monday (2124 GMT Sunday).

According to Yazd Seismological Network, the quake was registered in an area in 32.01 degrees latitude and 55.03 degrees longitude.

No reports have yet been available on possible damage to property by the two earthquakes.

Quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence in Iran, which lies on one of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
