Turkcell delegation in Iran to hold last round of talks

Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA-A delegation representing Turkcell, foreign partner to a major second operator cellular phone project, arrived in Iran late Tuesday.

A source close to the Turkish company, Turkcell, said the delegation is to hold last round of talks with the Iranian partners in Irancell consortium on the disputed second operator agreement.

Turkcell won the Iranian government's tender about two years ago and signed a related contract with the government but its share was trimmed by 21 percent to 49 percent from original 70 percent based on a Majlis approval.

Since then Turkcell has been in talks with the Iranian partners in the Irancell consortium on management of the project.

Under the second operator cellular phone project, 16 million inexpensive simcards are to be offered to the public, operating based on the latest international standards without any disconnection.
